The Week

Saint-Tropez in July and August is one of the few places in the world where the season itself is the event. The port, the hills, the beach at Pampelonne, the rooms that go until sunrise. Getting it right requires knowing which version of it you're doing, and booking everything months before you arrive. This is that guide.

Nice, Then Twenty-Five Minutes by Air

Ch. 01The Arrival

Nice, Then Twenty-Five Minutes by Air

You fly into Nice. From there, you do not drive. The summer traffic on the Côte d'Azur in July and August is the kind that turns a two-hour journey into five. You take a helicopter. The transfer from Nice airport to Saint-Tropez takes approximately twenty-five minutes. It costs around €200 per person. You arrive having seen the coastline from above, which is the correct way to see it for the first time.

Le Byblos

Ch. 02The Hotel

Le Byblos

The hotel is never really the main event in Saint-Tropez. But Le Byblos is the exception. The pink Provençal village-within-a-village in the centre of town has been the address since 1967. Mick Jagger celebrated his wedding here. Suites start at €3,000 a night in season. It is entirely worth it for the location, the pool, and the ability to walk to everything else on this list.

Les Parcs de Saint-Tropez

Ch. 03The Villa

Les Parcs de Saint-Tropez

If you're staying a week, the villa is better than the hotel. Les Parcs de Saint-Tropez is the gated neighbourhood south of the town centre where the serious money stays. Private villas with pools, security, and in most cases a boat moored nearby. Prices in season run to five figures per week. You wake up inside your own estate, with the car already waiting and the week already arranged. That is the difference.

Casa Amor or LouLou

Ch. 04The Beach Club

Casa Amor or LouLou

You arrive at the beach club thinking it's a relaxed afternoon by the sea. It starts at 3pm. By 5pm it has turned into something else entirely, a one-of-a-kind party that has no obvious end. Casa Amor is the Dolce & Gabbana collaboration on Pampelonne Beach, which is the correct answer if you want the visual. LouLou is more subdued, better food, preferred by people who have been here before. Tables run from €2,000 to €15,000 depending on the day and the size of your group. Book weeks in advance.

Private Yacht to a Hidden Cove

Ch. 05The Water

Private Yacht to a Hidden Cove

Between the beach club and dinner, you take a private yacht out to a hidden cove. The coastline around Saint-Tropez has pockets that are invisible from the road and unreachable by foot. A half-day charter gets you there and back. These are not places that appear on any map that matters.

The Port, Then Inside

Ch. 06The Dinner

The Port, Then Inside

Dinner in Saint-Tropez follows a specific pattern. You eat late, 9pm at the earliest. The port-side tables at Le Girelier or Sénéquier are for watching the boats. The real dinner happens at the restaurants that are also the most popular night spots, indoor, loud, with sparklers on the bottles and a room that tilts toward dancing by midnight. Book three to four weeks ahead for anything in July or August.

Reserve

Le Girelier · Saint-Tropez Port

Quai Jean Jaurès · Harbour-front dining

Dinner from €80pp

Lilly's, Pablo, Sanctum

Ch. 07The Night

Lilly's, Pablo, Sanctum

Three rooms. Lilly's has been the address for a decade, and the bookings reflect it. Pablo runs harder, later, with DJ sets that treat the room as the main event. Sanctum is where the crowd has shifted recently, a darker room and a more considered lineup. None of them open before midnight. None of them close before the light changes. Pick one and give it the whole night.

Place des Lices

Ch. 08The Morning

Place des Lices

Tuesday and Saturday mornings, Place des Lices hosts one of the best markets in the South of France. Produce, antiques, vintage clothing, art. It does not feel like a million dollar week. It feels like the South of France on a Tuesday morning. Which is precisely what makes Saint-Tropez different from anywhere else doing the same thing.
